Peru boasts a unique blend of high-altitude Andean colour steeped in Incan roots - and the steaming Amazonian Rainforest. Glacier capped mountains rise to 6 km above sea-level, Incan wonders such as Machu Picchu cling to pinnacles rising from verdant Cloudforests, and the Rainforests East of the Andes boast unparalleled natural wonders. There are some 1800 bird species (over 10% of the world's offering), over 1 million species of plants including thousands of Orchid species - and a wonderful array of animals, including Llamas, Alpacas, Capybaras, Tapir, Jaguar to mention but a few. And, of course, "darkest Peru" is the home of Paddington Bear - the very rare Spectacled Bear that inhabits the Cloudforests and Puna of the Andes.
